Compare o Mercado is the first Portuguese web platform that needs nothing more than the customer’s profile to suggest which products and financial services are most suited to them. All the customer has to do is fill out a form and Compare o Mercado does the rest.
The platform provides more than 11 comparison services such as the prices of car insurance, health insurance, personal loans, savings plans, hotels and fuel, and 2 more services will be added later this year. Compare o Mercado currently has more than 10,000 users each month and is aiming for 50,000 by the beginning of 2015. As if that wasn’t ambitious enough, the team behind the successful startup is already planning an app for android and iOS phones.
Local startup incubators and accelerators such as Startup Lisboa were vital in helping the young company create a network of partners and investors. For Manuel Mello, CEO of the company, ‘a project like Compare o Mercado needs a network capable of offering the know-how and expertise of dealing with different companies and business sectors. The startup incubators have been vital in this chapter, helping us to build solid connections. That kind of network will hopefully turn our startup into a reference in 2015”.
