Technology can help to solve any problem, big or small. Federico Lopez and Valeria Zaytseva, Co-founders of Smartaxi, have come up with an innovative app for taxi drivers.

Smartaxi is a mobile application which allows taxi drivers to see exactly where there is a demand for their service. Taxi drivers enter pick-up and drop-off details of each journey into the app. Using this geolocalised information and an interactive map, Smartaxi can make accurate and up-to date predictions about where taxi drivers should go to get their next job. Smartaxi allows taxi drivers to optimize their working hours and save money on fuel costs, whilst customers do not have to wait for hours or wander the streets in search of a cab. What is more, reduced congestion in cities contributes to a greener environment.

The young entrepreneurs behind Smartaxi

The app was designed with FIWARE technology which seeks to provide a truly open, public and royalty-free architecture thereby reducing obstacles and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

Smartaxi was funded by the European Commission through the Seventh Framework Programme  as well as accelerators and institutions including Wayra, ENISA, Principa Tech, IVEX, and UPV. It is another great example of how through hard work and a little support, an innovative web idea can become a successful business.

CEO of Smartaxi, Federico Lopez encourages young entrepreneurs to put their ideas into practice and says that ‘whilst creating and persevering with your own startup is hard work; it is also a fun and educational experience.’
